Divij Sharan and Samantha Murray Have Indian Wedding in Delhi
Tennis - Indian tennis star DIvij Sharan and British tennis star Samantha Murray had their second wedding in Delhi last week - on November 23rd. The duo had already had a Catholic ceremony on 19th July and this time it was a celebration as per traditional Indian rituals.
Sharan is one of India's top doubles players currently, with a ranking of No. 46 in the ATP Doubles rankings. He won 2 ATP tiles in doubles this year - Pune with countryman Rohan Bopanna and St. Petersburg with Igor Zelenay. He also reached the finals in Munich with Marcelo Demoliner.
Sharan is 33 years old and has a career best ranking of No. 36 in July last year.
Meanwhile, 32-year-old Murray is ranked No. 220 in singles and No. 206 in doubles. She has been ranked as high as No. 165 in singles and No. 148 in doubles.
The pair said they had to wait for four months to have the Indian ceremony as they had busy schedules on the circuit and decided to wait till the off-season to have the second ceremony. Sharan also said that since they were both players, they understood the demands of the tennis circuit and hoped to be support one another.
This is the second wedding in recent months featuring an Indian origin player and a WTA tennis player. In July, Stephen Amritraj, the son of Indian tennis legend Vijay Amritraj, married American tennis star Alison Riske.
