Ken Rosewall Arena to Get a Brand New Roof for ATP Cup
The Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney will get a brand new roof in time for the new ATP Cup in January, according to Tennis Tour Talk. The new roof is an innovative cable-tension PTFE fabric design, the first for a stadium in Australia and is designed by Cox Architecture in conjunction with Arup and Fabritecture.
Tennis NSW CEO and ATP Cup Sydney General Manager Lawrence Robertson commented, “The redevelopment of Ken Rosewall Arena and Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre has progressed extremely well since we announced the project in January. The new roof structure on the center court will give the fans and players a vastly improved experience. With just 40 days to go, we are looking forward to seeing the venue completely transformed to host the brand new ATP Cup and welcoming the players to Sydney. Major events like the ATP Cup play a crucial role in driving visitation to NSW, so it is fantastic that players and their devoted fans can enjoy these world-class upgrades to Ken Rosewall Arena at the inaugural tournament in Sydney.”
Acting NSW Minister for Sports Geoff Lee added, “The Ken Rosewall Arena is steeped in history with golden memories from the Sydney Olympics but new chapters are about to be written with the world’s best players entertaining crowds under a brand new roof. The NSW Government is proud to have funded the transformation of this arena which will be a big hit with the players and the fans.”
The ATP Cup will include nine of the world's Top10 players and 26 of the Top 30 players in the inaugural edition of the 24 country tournament which has prize money of $22 million and ATP ranking points of 750 (maximum) for singles and 250 (maximum) for doubles.
The tournament will be played from 3rd January to 12th January in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney in a round-robin format with eight teams advancing to the quarter-finals in Sydney.
