Rafael Nadal has changed gamestyle, shortens points - Jaite
In an interview with Septimo Game, former Argentinean Davis Cup team captain and ATP Buenos Aires' current Tournament Director Martin Jaite spoke about the younger players trying to prevail over Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Jaite said: "There is a very interesting new generation. What they need to do is to show if they can beat those players in the Grand Slams, because it's not the same to win ATP Finals like Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas did than playing on a consistent basis at five sets with those greats. Thanks to these new players coming up, the Big Three are playing much more aggressive, like Nadal who changed his game style and now tries to shorten points. There was also a ball speed change, the players play very quick and that's why there are new players."
On the new Davis Cup format, Jaite admitted he regrets not having former world No. 4 Juan Martin del Potro on the team. The Argentinean has been sidelined with a knee injury for months. "The teams with the best players are the favorites. Juan Martin is similar to the four greats, having him on the team is the same thing as having Nadal, Federer or Djokovic or Great Britain with a healthy Andy Murray."
Meanwhile, Nick Bollettieri praised Novak Djokovic: "He moves well, recovers quickly, plays shortstop, serves, is very intelligent on the field. He is the best and it is great to see him again at the height of his game." The Serb is committed to playing in Abu Dhabi this month.
