Roger Federer answers: Will he still be active in 2023?

Roger Federer, who practised during the off-season in Dubai, is ready to compete in an exhibition in the city of Hangzhou, China, with Alexander Zverev and the Bryan brothers on December 28 and 29. The Swiss has committed to play all the editions of the event until 2023, year when he will turn 42.

In an interview to La Tribune de Geneve, the 38-year-old was asked if this would mean that he will still play on the ATP Tour until 2023: "No, not logically (laughs). I just know that until then I can still play tennis at a level that I enjoy making people happy. Afterwards, will I still be on the circuit in four years? No idea. But I remember Pete Sampras beating me in Macau on a tour in 2007. He had left the circuit five years before and I was World No. 1 at that time. What I mean is that at some point your career ends because you are no longer able to play week after week. On the other hand, you can still bring a good match, once in a while."

In the same interview to the Swiss journal, Federer revealed what his “big challenge” will be until mid-January.
