What Federer, Nadal and Djokovic did cannot be repeated - Puyol

Tennium and not Kosmos will be the company organizing the Barcelona Open from 2021. In an interview to Mundo Deportivo, Xavier Puyol, one of the organizers, said: "The club will have more earnings, which will benefit the court, having the best players and the best facility."

Rafael Nadal is 33 years old and one day he will retire from the professional tour. How will the event face it? "I do not think complicated times will come but we have to be prepared for the post Nadal era. We need to realize that what Rafa, Federer and Djokovic did cannot be repeated. So we have to focus on the next generation of players. Solid players like Dominic Thiem or Stefanos Tsitsipas or the new up-and-coming guys like the Italian Jannik Sinner. With David Ferrer we are doing a strategic analysis on who are the ideal players for the following years."

Pujol also said they plan to continue their partnership with Banc Sabadell: "Our main sponsor is the priority, like IMG was."

Pujol also admitted that the current venue is a big strength for the tournament: "One of the things that makes our event standout is history, culture and values that we have in the club. It's a 68-year history. We need to invest and be prepared to eventually become an ATP 750 event."

Brisbane, Australia, will host along with Perth and Sydney, the inaugural ATP Cup that will take place from January 3 to 12 2020, in a team competition that will be the rival of the Davis Cup organized by ITF. The WTA Brisbane, that will take place from 6 to 12 January, will coincide with the ATP Cup and none of the women's matches will happen on the Pat Rafter Arena until 9 January, so they will be played on outdoor secondary courts which means they can be postponed or delayed due to rain.
