Roger Federer: I'm happy with him how I'm feeling, offseason work paid off
Swiss tennis star Roger Federer, 38, insists fitness isn't concern a him at the moment as he feels fresh after reaching the Australian Open quarterfinal.
The Swiss survived a thriller third round clash on Friday as he edged out Australia's John Millman 4-6 7-6 (2) 6-4 4-6 7-6 (8) in just over four hours of play.
Two days later, No. 3 seed Federer dropped the first serve against world No. 67 Marton Fucsovics but then won the next three to claim a 4-6 6-1 6-2 6-2 win over the Hungarian.
"I'm actually very happy how I'm feeling considering my age, considering everything that I have gone through throughout my career and the toughness of first real match of the season really for me. After having not played this kind of matches for some time, it's nice to see that the work I did in the offseason paid off," Federer told reporters after beating Fucsovics.
Federer, a record 20-time Grand Slam champion, is set to fight against world No. 100 Tennys Sandgren for a place in the Australian Open semifinal.
