Anne Keothavong not hopeful of Jo Konta return in Fed Cup
Great Britain Fed Cup Captain Anne Keothavong is not holding much hope to convince Jo Konta to feature in the Fed Cup Tie following their loss to Slovakia. Jo Konta opted not to play and instead trained at the National Tennis Centre.
Britain are in a relegation tie set to be played in April following a 3-1 loss to Slovakia with Konta training at Roehampton's National Training Centre last week. Keothavong expressed that she would absolutely be delighted to have Konta back but does not expect Konta to reverse the decision to skip representative play this year.
“When she makes up her mind she tends to stick to it,” Keothavong said of Konta. “Jo is different, she is quirky, but when it comes to her tennis you know what you are going to get. She leaves it all out there. Maybe I need a few tips on the set of persuasion.”
“Without her this week, we certainly felt it, but it would have been tough even if she had made herself available,” she added. "Maybe I'll remind her about her heroic performances last year, and what she did on the back of those wins - maybe that might help her change her mind."
She also mentioned that the team did not hear from Konta during the Tie, which saw them without the services of young gun Katie Boutler. Though Keothavong got the best out of her players including a brilliant effort from Harriet Dart, who played extremely well for someone with little clay court experience.
