ATP Delray Beach: Reilly Opelka, Brandon Nakashima and Soonwoo Kwon advance

The 4th seed Reilly Opelka is through to the quarter-final in Delray Beach, beating the last year's semi-finalist Mackenzie McDonald 6-3, 6-4 in 64 minutes. Reilly saved two break chances in the third game of the match and never looked back, firing 17 aces and earning one break in each set to seal the deal in no time at all and advance into the quarters. Mackenzie sprayed a forehand error in game two to suffer a break, earning two break points in the next game that Opelka repelled with booming serves to cement the break. The giant server barely lost a point behind the initial shot in the rest of the set, closing it with a hold at love in game nine for a 6-3 after 33 minutes. A forehand winner in the first game of the second set drove Reilly towards another break, delivering five commanding holds and sealing the deal with a service winner at 5-4 to advance into the next round.

Making his ATP debut this week, an 18-year-old Brandon Nakashima toppled a qualifier Cameron Norrie 7-5, 6-2 in an hour and 18 minutes for the place in the quarters. Brandon dropped only 16 points in ten service games, getting broken once and stealing the Briton's serve four times to finish the job in straight sets. They traded breaks in games four and five in the opener, with Norrie saving two set points on serve at 4-5 to prolong the action. Staying focused, Nakashima clinched a break at 6-5 taking the first set and gaining a massive boost ahead of set number two where he delivered four great holds and two breaks in games two and eight to stay on the title course.

After two deep runs in Pune and New York, Soonwoo Kwon in through to another quarter-final following a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 triumph over Ryan Harrison in two hours and 38 minutes. The American stayed in touch with a single break in set number two, fending off two match points at 4-5 in the decider before the Korean claimed all seven points in the tie break to cross the finish line first and enter the last eight. Yoshihito Nishioka enjoyed a perfect day at the office, racing past Noah Rubin 6-1, 6-2 in 55 minutes for the seventh victory in 2020. The Japanese ruled the court in his games, losing seven points and never facing a break point, keeping the pressure on the other side of the net and taking more than a half points on the return to seize four breaks and sail towards the triumph in less than an hour.
