Eight players from the top-16 will lead the field and title chase, with the US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev as the top seed and the leader of the pack. Daniil will try to bounce back after the fourth-round loss at the Australian Open, facing Montpellier finalist Vasek Pospisil in what could be a tricky first round for the Russian. Filip Krajinovic or Tallon Griekspoor will challenge Medvedev or Pospisil in the second round, with Andrey Rublev, Alexander Bublik and Nikoloz Basilashvili as the possible rivals in the quarter-final. The defending champion Gael Monfils will try to win the title in Montpellier today before heading to the Netherlands, playing against Joao Sousa in the first round and the fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon in the second.
Fabio Fognini and Karen Khachanov should embrace one of the best matches of the first round in that second quarter and it will be interesting to see who will reach the semis from there. David Goffin and Roberto Bautista Agut lead the third quarter, hoping to beat Adrian Mannarino, Pablo Carreno Busta, Jannik Sinner, Radu Albot and Robin Haase and set the quarter-final clash, with both players fighting for the place in the top-10. In the bottom quarter, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Hubert Hurkacz will face each other for the spot in the second round, with another intriguing clash coming between Denis Shapovalov and Grigor Dimitrov who had both lost early in Montpellier.
