David Goffin: I'm Really Happy to See Kim Clijsters Back on the Court

While several of the WTA players were left impressed with the performance of former World No. 1 Kim Clijsters in her comeback match at the WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships earlier this week, her compatriot on the men's circuit, David Goffin was also impressed with the four-time Grand Slam champion's performance in Dubai.

Clijsters returned to the tour after more than seven years away and as a mother of three, going down to Spain's Garbine Muguruza 2-6, 6-7 in the first round in Dubai but after a hard fought battle in the second set.

David Goffin commented on  Clijsters' performance, "Her first match impressed me—her level was already very high. We will see how she will manage with consecutive matches. But impressive first match for her age. I’m really happy to see her back on court. She comes back for her, for her pleasure. She seems to do it with a fine spirit. I hope she will succeed.”

The 29 year old Goffin is ranked No. 10 in the ATP rankings currently, just three spots below his career-best ranking of No. 7.

He lost his first match at the Open 13 ATP event this week, going down to Egor Gerasimov in straight sets.

Clijsters is next scheduled to play the WTA events in Monterrey, Indian Wells and Miami as she continues her comeback. It remains to be seen if her loss in Dubai will result in any change in her schedule.
