Diego Schwartzman out of Santiago, Alejandro Tabillo awarded wildcard into event
Argentine tennis star Diego Schwartzman isn't ready to return to action next week as he has withdrawn from the inaugural edition of an ATP event in Santiago.
World No. 13 Schwartzman survived an epic three-hour and 41-minute quarterfinal in Buenos Aires last week but it took a toll on him as he picked up a left leg injury during his match against Pablo Cuevas.
Unfortunately for the Argentine, he couldn't play his semifinal match against Pedro Sousa as he gave a walkover to the Portuguese and also pulled out of this week's Rio Open.
Former world No. 11 Schwartzman's focus now turns to getting himself ready for the first Masters events of the season in Indian Wells and Miami.
Meanwhile, rising Chilean star Alejandro Tabillo was awarded a wildcard into Santiago and he is set to play on the main stage only for the second time in his career.
Tabillo, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 166 in the world, made his debut on the main stage at the Australian Open -- where he as a qualifier made the second round before losing to John Isner.
After spending the majority of his career on the Challenger and Futures level, the 22-year-old Chilean is certainly extremely motivated to make a step forward and establish himself on the ATP level.
