Pakistani Doubles Specialist Aisam Qureshi Gets Married

Tennis - Pakistan's best known tennis player, the doubles specialist Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has got married this weekend. Qureshi married Sana Fayyaz on Saturday, according to Zemtv.

The ceremony, a simple Nikah ceremony, was attended by family members, relatives and friends. A formal event would be arranged next month.

Aisam-ul-Haq’s father, Ahtasham-ul-Haq Qureshi, confirmed the marriage and said that he was married on February 19 in Lahore.

Fayaz is the daughter of Mohammad Fayyaz, a businessman from Lahore. Qureshi has left for France after the marriage ceremony.

The 39 year old Qureshi has been ranked as high as No. 125 in singles in December 2007 and No. 8 in doubles in June 2011. He is the only Pakistani tennis player to reach the final of a Grand Slam, which he did in 2010, competing in both mixed doubles (partnering with KvÄ›ta Peschke) and men's doubles (partnering with Rohan Bopanna) at the US Open. He is currently ranked No. 50 in the world doubles rankings. He has won 18 doubles titles on the ATP Tour and won his first title of the season in New York last week with Dominic Inglot.

Qureshi also led Pakistan to the World Group Play-Offs for the first time in 2005, where they were beaten by Chile. He has won the most Davis Cup matches for Pakistan, being the most successful singles and doubles player from his country ever. He is also part of the most successful doubles pairing for Pakistan (with Aqeel Khan) in the country's sporting history.
