Robin Soderling: Mikael Ymer Will Play an Important Role in the Davis Cup

Sweden's Davis Cup captain Robin Soderling says the upcoming tie against Chile is a big one and hopes that Sweden can advance to the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid.

Speaking to Tennis.se, Soderling says, "The crowd support and atmosphere is a big part of the Davis Cup and especially in the Royal. Tennis Hall which is a really good tennis hall. The Chileans usually create a good atmosphere when there are players from Chile in the Stockholm Open, so it becomes even more important that the Swedish people come and show who has their home ground. I hope for a lot of people with sweaters and Swedish flags. It can help our players give a little more. All matches are important, but this is a big match. We can qualify for the playoffs with the world's best teams. It was a long time since we were in the highest division."

The former World No. 4 adds that he expects Mikael Ymer to play an important role in the Davis Cup tie. 'Mikael (Ymer) has impressed and made it great throughout last year and has started well this year too. It is great to beat a player like Richard Gasquet in Marseille. He led 5-2, lost to 5-5 but still won 7-5. It shows that he is mentally strong  I think he has begun to realize how good he is. I know for myself when I got into the Top 100 and started thinking about if it was just a fluke, but soon you get into it and you relax and realize that you are at that level. Mikael has good confidence and will become an important role. Elias has had problems with his foot since the Stockholm Open. He has had a tough time and has not been able to do himself justice. He hopes to play in Dubai and says that his foot feels good. He will have a good chance to take both of the singles, although it is far from obvious. I still do not know if Nicolas Jarry will play, They have Cristian Garin (# 25) and even Alejandro Tabilo (# 166).

The Sweden-Chile tie will be played on March 6 & 7 in Stockholm and the winner will advance to the Davis Cup World Group Finals in Madrid.
