Roger Federer: "I am sometimes misused for certain purposes"
In recent weeks, Roger Federer has received numerous criticisms for his collaboration with Credit Suisse, of which he is a testimonial.
The Swiss Maestro began his 2020 season at the 2020 Australian Open. He reached the semifinals after straight sets wins over Steve Johnson and Filip Krajinović, a five-set win over John Millman, four-set win over Márton Fucsovics, and a five-set win over Tennys Sandgren. Federer then lost his semifinal match to Djokovic in straight sets, having sustained a groin injury earlier in the tournament.
"I am sometimes misused for certain purposes," Federer said in a long interview to Tages Anzeiger. "When I help one person, I am criticised for not doing it with others. I have reached a point where I have to think carefully about what I am doing. I can't be everywhere, I can't do everything. I am also a father and tennis player," he added.
"I am aware that I can make a difference, take the microphone and address certain things. But I can't do that all the time. I know I can make a difference with my popularity. For others, for the planet, for the animals. And I think it's good what has recently been raised about collective consciousness. It is important that you choose the right things at the right time and get your message across in a fair way. Not by attacking others." Federer will return to Dubai to defend his title.
