Bruno Soares: ATP is Working on All Possible Scenarios
Brazil's Bruno Soares says there is not much to say now except to wait for the tour to resume and work out other modalities including the rankings and the calendar changes.
Speaking on the podcast, 'Backhand na Paralela' , Saores says, "For now, there's not much to say. ATP is already preparing all possible scenarios ... starting on June 8th, starting in July. Everything is all frozen now. the ranking, calendar, registration. All of these things are being designed and prepared. On the day when we know when everything is going to start again, we have to sit down and get our hands dirty and define how we are going to solve this all.
Soares also says the decision of Roland Garros to move their tournament to September as arbitrary and quite selfish. "I think that the world, in all areas, needs to be united to solve this problem. And Roland Garros has shown that it is selfish and that it is not thinking about anyone, only itself. It is a possible date, if things return in July, but there must be a consensus. It is an opportunity for all of us to be united. Tennis is very fragmented, with several bodies. We have a chance to do something much bigger and unified. Regardless, the only way to have a circuit in the second half of 2020 is if everyone comes together."
Soares has been ranked as high as No. 2 in the world doubles rankings. He won his first Grand Slam title at the 2016 Australian Open, partnering Jamie Murray and then followed that up with a second men's doubles title at the 2016 US Open. He has also won three Grand Slam titles in Mixed Doubles, two at the US Open, in 2012 and 2014, and one at the Australian Open in 2016.
