Martina Hingis to Play for TC Zug in Swiss InterClub Championships

Former World No. 1 Martina Hingis will be part of the TC Zug team in the Swiss Interclub championships in May and June, according to BZ Sports.

Hingis will be joined by Géraldine Dondit, another player with Fed Cup experience, and the other regular players Nadine Kenzelmann and Barbara Suter-Keller. The team, which has trained all winter once a week in the hall of the TC Allmend Zug, also includes by two juniors.

The four players are all from the same age group and know each other from before and are all active in the Zug metropolitan area, the city in which Hingis and her family live.

Hingis has won 5 Grand Slam singles titles and 20 Grand Slam doubles titles in her career. She last competed in the doubles event at the WTA Finals in Singapore in October 2017. She has given birth to her daughter Lia last year in February 2019 but has remained active since then with tennis, as a sparring partner at her mother Melanie Molitor's tennis school, where several players including Belinda Bencic train.

There is a possibility that she may play some Legends events at the Grand Slams this year.

The Zugers may play three home games, first against Nyon (May 2) and then twice in central Switzerland against the Lucerne clubs Allmend (9.5) and Lido (6.6), followed by away trips lead to Bern to Dählhölzli (16.5) and to Sion to Les Iles (13.6). With Hingis' appearance, the NLB Interclub will be more popular this year than ever in the media and with the fans.
