Diego Schwartzman: There is nothing more beautiful than being able to help others

Argentine tennis star Diego Schwartzman says he absolutely enjoys helping people and he couldn't simply sit at home during the coronavirus pandemic and watch people struggle.

Schwartzman, who is a friend with football star Paulo Dybala, decided to organize a celebrity video game charity event with Dybala and their plan is to donate all the raised money to Red Cross Argentina.

Besides Schwartzman and Dybala, 14 other celebrities -- including world No. 3 Dominic Thiem -- will participate in two FIFA 20 knock-out competitions.

The online tournament will be broadcasted on DirecTV and TYC Sport.

"I was seeing the things that were going on and during quarantine I saw athletes and the messages from figures that people look up to. It can be important for people that are at home, to support them and to act in solidarity,” Schwartzman told the ATP Tour. “This idea built from there, to do something to help everyone, entertain people who are at home and to have a good time. There is nothing more beautiful than being able to help.”

Schwartzman, ranked at No. 13 in the world, enjoyed a solid season before the Tour was suspended until at least July 13 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Argentine made the round-of-16 at the Australian Open, before he ended runner-up at the Cordoba Open in February.

Schwartzman, a former world No. 11, made the Buenos Aires semifinal in his last tournament played before he was forced to give a walkover to Portugal's Pedro Sousa.
