Bianca Andreescu: '2019 was the best and worse year of my life'

The young Canadian Bianca Andreescu had a rollercoaster ride in 2019, kicking it off from outside the top-150 and finishing among the best players in the world. Bianca lifted three notable titles, including the US Open, and also experienced two nasty injuries in Miami and at the WTA Finals, with the latter one preventing her from making a comeback in 2020 before the coronavirus outbreak. In Indian Wells, Andreescu stunned the entire field to become the youngest champion in the desert since Serena Williams, suffering a shoulder injury in Miami and staying away from the court until Toronto (had to withdraw from Roland Garros after the first round). Finding extra energy in front of the home fans, Bianca went all the way to win the title, heading to the US Open as the top-15 player and one of the favorites for the crown.

In New York, the Mississauga native took down Belinda Bencic and Serena Williams in the semi-final and the final, embracing Major glory and becoming the first teenager with the crown at that level in 13 years. Hoping to stay healthy, Bianca entered only a couple of tournaments by the end of the year, making a debut at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen and suffering a nasty knee injury against Karolina Pliskova, the one that has kept her off the court ever since. Bianca is now ready to compete again but will have to wait for the coronavirus to slow down and maybe allow some action in the rest of 2020. Speaking for Eurosport, Bianca repeated she wants to become world no. 1 in the future and win many more Majors, feeling confident in her abilities and hoping to find the form that had carry her towards notable results in 2019. 

"I don't know what the future has to hold, but I'm going to give my best. The goal is to become world no. 1 and win other Majors as well. 2019 was the best and worse year of my life and every time I think about that US Open title it brings me feels. It was a rollercoaster ride with great results and me improving as a person and as a player. I got the confidence and just kept the ball rolling. It was my first year on the Tour and it was incredible how fast it came all together. It makes me happy talking about it again."
