Felix Auger-Aliassime Moves Away from Tennis Canada

19 year old Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime says he will now look after his own coaching expenses after breaking away with Tennis Canada due to the current global crisis.

Auger-Aliassime is now officially detached from the aid of Tennis Canada and will going forward fully assume the costs related to his career. 

In most cases, as a young player develops, they take charge of their own coaching expenses and this would have been the case with Auger-Aliassime as well.

However, when Tennis Canada announced several lay-offs due to the current crisis, the time for Auger-Aliassime to take over his own expenses came a bit sooner than expected.

The Canadian will continue to work with the same team - coaches Guillaume Marx and Frédéric Fontang, physical trainer Guillaume Perrotte and kinesiologist Andres Vial.

Spekaing to members of the media on Wednesday, Auger-Aliassime commented, "I knew that eventually I would break away from Tennis Canada and the situation made it happen prematurely. I'm taking charge of my coaches from now on."

The Canadian is currently in Montreal during the lockdown period and hopes to leave for Monaco on May 10th.

He hopes to start training once again with Fontang, who is currently in France and could also play the closed circuit being created by Serena Williams' coach Patrick Mouratoglou.

"I will first go home to Monaco and then see the availability and the competitions available to me and which remain in a safe environment. It (the event by Mouratoglou) is one of the competitions that is on the list of possible competitions in the weeks and months to come. But already, if I can go back to Monaco and train in acceptable conditions, then I can see which competitions I could play. ” 

Speaking about the resumption of the professional tour, Auger-Aliassime says, "It is certain that there are questions and uncertainties. On the other hand, I try to go there with what I know. I have a training plan in place and I stick with that. I am trying to stay in something that has worked for me so far. I don't need to seek my motivation. The hardest part is looking at the calendar and seeing all the canceled tournaments. This is why I am open to any competition that we could play behind closed doors and that would respect government rules."
