Novak Djokovic: "We have to see how the situation in the United States will be"

In a video interview with Sky Sport Italia, Novak Djokovic talked about some of the struggles that the Tour suspension conveys for tennis players.

"For us tennis players it is important to have clarity in the calendar” he said. “Officially [the Tour will resume on] July 13, but many say that we will hardly start again on that date. For me it is important to have a routine, I can't wait for a date. I train every day in the gym, I run at home, I play with children, but this is also a struggle. At the beginning I felt a little empty and confused, I lacked clarity. I talked to my team, I tried to train daily, even if I did not follow the preparation to the letter.”

Djokovic yet again shared his uncertainties regarding the date of expiration of the suspension.

"Officially it is July 13," he said, "But they have already canceled the WTA tournament in Canada, but not the men's one. We have to see how the situation in the United States will be, because we should go there in August. If it becomes less risky, we will be able to resume. There is also the option that they will cancel all the tournaments in America and start with clay in the autumn, maybe come to Rome in 2-3 months. Hopefully we can start playing again.”

The ATP and WTA have given themselves until June 1st to decide whether the hard court summer season in America will take place, or whether it will be entirely cancelled.

In the same interview, Djokovic recalled a dark moment in his career and talked about his 2019 Wimbledon final against Roger Federer.
