Paul Jubb: I love that competitive fire that Andy Murray has
Rising British tennis player Paul Jubb says he identifies with former World No. 1 Andy Murray and loves the three-time Grand Slam champion's competitive streak.
Jubb, who has recently decided to turn professional and has joined Andy Murray's 77 management group, is currently No. 519 in the world rankings.
Speaking to the British press, Jubb says, "It’s always been an aspect that has drawn me to Andy because I love that fire that he has.
“It’s something different – the passion that he has for the game, the will to win, it just comes out of him when he is playing.
"A lot of people talk about the complaining he does on court but it just shows how much he cares and I love that fire about him.
"He is not dull to watch. That’s certainly an aspect that draws me to him the most.
“You see how far he is willing to go to win. You see how big his heart is when he is playing. He puts all of his emotions into it. That’s how it should be.
"If you really want it, then you’re gonna have lots of emotions, so to me it shows how bad he wants which I really like about him.
“Now I can use him as a source of knowledge and use his brain to try and help me on the tennis court. I'm definitely super excited.”
Jubb, who has also been selected for the Lawn Tennis Association’s Pro Scholarship Programme, says he hopes his success will help inspire others in Great Britain that one can achieve their sporting dreams no matter what background they come from.
The 20 year old grew up while playing on park courts in Hull before going on to play college tennis in the United States where he won the NCAA Men’s Tennis title twice before turning pro recently.
“My story is not traditional. Hopefully I can have more success in the future, and more kids around the country can see that you don’t have to grow up in a traditional background to get far in the sport.
"I would certainly like to think – maybe I am a bit now, but even more so in the future – that I can be a good role model, and kids can look up to me and see my story and how far I’ve come from where I’ve come from.”
Murray says he is excited to be working with Jubb and help him develop his potential.
“We’re delighted he chose to sign with us as he starts on his journey as a professional tennis player.
"He’s got a great mindset and work ethic, I’m looking forward to helping him develop as an athlete in any way I can.
