Toni Nadal: All tax paying citizens including Rafael Nadal have the right to comment
Toni Nadal, the uncle and former coach of World No. 2 Rafael Nadal, has come to the defence of his nephew after the 19-time Grand Slam champion was criticized for expressing his views on the management of the current crisis in Spain.
In an interview to 'El Larguero', Toni said every citizen who pays taxes including Rafael Nadal, should have the right to express their views.
"I do not understand that a person who pays his taxes cannot express his opinion, something would be missing, I do not conceive it. It seems logical to me that everyone has the same rights and not that because he is called Rafa Nadal he cannot comment.
"There are always people willing to say anything outrageous. It is very easy to put adjectives on people. When you express yourself you have to have some knowledge of things. A citizen likes to comment on what happens in his country."
Toni himself was critical of the management of the Covid-19 crisis in Spain. "I think things have been done badly, more would be lacking. That the situation was not easy? I also have it very clear, it has not been easy anywhere."
"I once read Pablo Iglesias say, I don't know exactly what he was saying, something like that in politics you don't ask for forgiveness, you resign. I don't see it, I don't see the reason.
"In politics, as in any area of life, mistakes are made, they are assumed, forgiveness is asked, which is normal when one is wrong when it affects others and nothing happens
"It is evident that the demonstration that (8-M) caused problems, that due to that demonstration they also had to give the go-ahead for Valencia or the Vox rally to play, it seems to me that it is evident.
"There is evidence. What was done on purpose? I imagine not, but mistakes are made by everyone"
