Max Eisenbud: “It’s hard to imagine tennis without a vaccine”

Max Eisenbud, a veteran tennis agent, believes the 2020 tennis season can be resurrected only with a vaccine and only the thought of holding a tournament in the current situation gives him goosebumps.

“I'm going to give you my honest opinion, and I really hope that I'm wrong. But it's really hard for me to see tennis on tour the rest of this year. And to be quite honest, it's hard for me to imagine tennis without a vaccine, really,” Eisenbud told Jon Wertheim during a Beyond the Baseline Podcast episode.

“It's hard for me to imagine 400 players from 80 different countries landing in a city and getting ready to compete. I really hope I'm wrong, but it's just hard for me to see it. It's scary,” Max continued.

However, the tennis agent pointed out that ATP and WTA have done a tremendous job regarding planning, but yet he still can’t foresee any tournament being played this year.

“All the tours have done an amazing job. I've got to tell you, the leadership, especially on the ATP Tour. But really the sport's really pulled in the same direction. And I've seen so much work and dedication of trying to salvage the year and tournament's moving into later dates. I've seen it all, I've seen it on paper and it looks amazing,” said Eisenbud.

“And if we do get that window, the players and the tennis fans are going to be really pleasantly surprised on how much work the tours have done as far as Plan A, B, C, D and E. I just don't think we get there. And I hope I'm wrong,” Max continued.

After all, not everything depends on the tours’ decisions, but also on the ones made by the many countries involved in holding tournaments all over the world.

“I saw the other day where a country like Argentina is closing their borders in and out until September. So if you have players that are in Argentina and the U.S. Open starts, how does that happen? I just don't see it.”
