Andrey Rublev: Pandemic is a global problem, I will self quarantine for 14 days

Rising Russian star Andrey Rublev has tested negative for the coronavirus but he will remain responsible as much as he can and self isolate for the next two weeks. 

Rublev, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 14 in the world, participated at the Adria Tour event in Zadar over this past weekend, where world No. 19 Grigor Dimitrov tested positive for the coronavirus.

Dimitrov, who played his opening match in Zadar on Saturday afternoon, easily lost to Croatian tennis star Borna Coric after feeling unwell and being far from his best game. 

The Bulgarian pulled out of his Saturday evening clash against Pedja Krstin and later also withdew from his Sunday clash against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic. 

Dimitrov announced on Sunday evening that he had tested for the coronavirus in Monaco and all of the players who participated at the Adria Tour event in Monaco -- except Djokovic -- were tested on Sunday night. 

Rublev, who won back-to-back titles earlier this year, fortunately tested negative. 

"What is happening in the world now is our responsibility. This is a global problem and it affects all of us. We need to all help reduce the spreading of this virus. So I am going to self quarantine for the next 14 days. Thank you for your support," Rublev said in a Twitter post.

Rublev, 22, won each of his three matches played in Zadar and easily made it past the group stage. 

The Russian edged out home favorite Marin Cilic in three sets, before he claimed straight-set wins over Serb Danilo Petrovic and world No. 7 Alexander Zverev. 

The 22-year-old was set to meet 17-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic in the final -- the man behind the Adria Tour project. 

Just minutes before the start of the final, tournament director for the Adria Tour event in Zadar Goran Ivanisevic came to the court and announced Dimitrov had tested positive and there wouldn't be the final. 

Rublev made an outstanding start to the season, having won back-to-back titles in Doha and Adelaide before he made the round-of-16 at the Australian Open. 

Two days before the start of the Adria Tour event in Zadar, Andrey Rublev accepted Djokovic's invitation to play at the event and make his first appearance on a tennis court since February.
