Andy Murray: Dan Evans got smoked on golf course

Former world No. 1 Andy Murray revealed he beat top-ranked British player Dan Evans and his coach Mark Hilton on the golf course and the 30-year-old had to grow a moustache after losing the bet.

At this week's Battle of the Brits event, world No. 28 Evans appeared with a new look as he was obliged to grow a moustache after losing to Murray on the golf course.

Evans' new look was a bit surprising and three-time Grand Slam champion Murray explained why the 30-year-old was rocking a moustache.

"He was kind of growing one and I was rinsing him for that because in my opinion it's a poor look," Murray said, as quoted on Sportsmail. "We were playing golf the following day. The losers had to grow a moustache for this event, and he and his coach Mark Hilton got smoked on the golf course."

Murray having a good time

Murray has opted to play only doubles at this week's Battle of the Brits event as he wants to slowly start his preparation for the US Open.

The two-time Wimbledon champion is happy that there has been an edge around the place.

"What you want is to create an environment where everyone is extremely competitive and there is a bit of atmosphere during the matches. I would rather play with eight to 10 players heckling me from the side than playing in silence," Murray said.

'I've enjoyed being around and I have got to know the players a bit more and compete with them. I have maybe enjoyed this event more than the previous one. It was silent at the last event. It was good because the matches were competitive but this one maybe is just a bit more fun."

A few days ago, 2012 US Open champion Murray confirmed he plans to play at Flushing Meadows.

"Yeah (I expect the US Open to go ahead as planned).

"As it stands," Murray said, per Metro UK. "We have to try and prepare that way, we were saying four or five weeks ago, you know, we were pretty sceptical about it but mentally at some stage you need to start preparing and planning for that.

"My training this week, for example, during the event next week, I’m planning to try and be there in shape for the US Open.

"If it wasn’t happening my schedule for practising, my rehab would all be a bit different.

"So yeah, mentally I’m planning for it to go ahead."
