Eugenie Bouchard will come back on the court

The last match officially played by number 332 of the WTA ranking Eugenie Bouchard dates back to last February: it was the clear loss suffered in the first round of the Oracle Challenger Series in Newport Beach, against the American Alexa Glatch (Bouchard lost for 1-6 2-6) .

The Canadian, number 5 in the world in 2014, reached a final in Wimbledon and the semifinals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros. Holder of a single round of the major circuit, Eugenie does not pass the third round of a Grand Slam tournament now from the US Open 2015.

Then Genie fell into a spiral of negative results and bad performances, not keeping all the expectations that had been created after her fantastic 2014. However, in the meantime she became a true social media star, where she is always very active, especially during the lockdown, caused by the spread of the global pandemic of Covid-19, which caused the ATP/WTA Tours suspensions.

Bouchard will come back to play in the Czech Republic

Former top 5 announced a few hours ago on Twitter: "Hi everyone. I am really excited because in a couple of weeks I will take part in the Prague Open. In fact, I've never been to Prague but I've heard it's a fantastic city. I can't wait to find out when I get there. I want to thank the tournament organizers for offering me a wild card at their prestigious event, see you in fourteen days ".

The Sparta Prague Open, born in 2010, has seen the triumph of players of the caliber of Lucie Safarova, Karolina Pliskova and Petra Kvitova in the past. Last year it was the Swiss Jil Teichmann who won 7-6 3-6 6-4 over Karolina Muchova.

The event, which starts on 10 August, will also see the participation of former WTA number one Simona Halep, who in the previous week will already fly to Palermo. Cincinnati will be played later this month, while the US Open will be staged between August and September. As for the Internationals of Italy, the Rome tournament should take place in early autumn. Needless to say, the current programming cannot be said to be definitive: with the Coronavirus situation in the world so unpredictable, very little is needed to condemn a tournament to its cancellation.
