Rafael Nadal and Kia Motors Corp announce a five year partnership renewal
World No. 2 Rafael Nadal, of Spain, and Kia Motors Corporation, the major partner of the Australian Open, have announced a five-year partnership renewal on a global livestream training session hosted on Nadal's official Facebook page.
Rafael Nadal and Kia Motors Corp have announced a five-year partnership renewalThe partnership between Nadal and Kia goes way back with the Spaniard being first sponsored by Kia Spain in 2004 and then becoming the global brand ambassador for Kia in 2006 at the age of 19.
Rafael Nadal commented, “Fans have been without tennis for months now, particularly mine since besides my practice routines at the Rafa Nadal academy I haven’t been active, so I really enjoyed putting on a special event for them. Kia has been by my side since I was 17 years old and has played a big part in my journey as a professional tennis player and as a person. I’m excited to see what the next five years bring both on and off the court,” he added.
Kia Motors President and CEO, Ho Sung Song, said, “Our 16-year partnership with Rafa has inspired millions of people to play tennis, so at a time when he needs his fans the most, we wanted to put them at the heart of his training and encourage his successful return to competition. We are excited about extending our partnership for the next five years and look forward to inspiring each other to continually move forward.”
Kia Motors is a South Korean multinational automotive manufacturer headquartered in Seoul. Rafael Nadal has won 19 Grand Slam singles titles, the second-most in history for a male player, behind 20 Grand Slams by Roger Federer. He has also won a record 35 ATP Tour Masters 1000 titles, 21 ATP Tour 500 titles and the 2008 Olympic gold medal in singles. Nadal has held the world No. 1 ranking for a total of 209 weeks, including being the year-end No. 1 five times and has won a record 12 French Open titles, four US Open titles, two Wimbledon titles and one Australian Open title. He has helped Spain win the Davis Cup title on five occasions. Nadal is the second male player after Andre Agassi to complete the singles Career Golden Slam. He has received the tour Sportsmanship Award three times and has been named the ATP Player of the Year five times and the ITF World Champion four times.
