Vasek Pospisil: Roger Federer is a super smart guy and very open-minded

Canada's Vasek Pospisil says sitting next to Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer and discussing ideas on the ATP Player Council was a "pretty amazing experience."

The ATP Player Council features 12 members, with 17-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic being the president of the council.

"It is a pretty amazing experience. And I was actually sitting and it was me and to my left was Novak to my right Roger and then Nadal was right beside him.” Pospisil said in the ATP Tennis Radio podcast, as quoted on Sportskeeda.

Djokovic, Nadal and Federer have all been credited for helping tennis reach new heights and they are still trying to find way to help the game grow.

"These are three incredible athletes to be involved in the council, with them it’s pretty cool and I think the dynamic is interesting because you have three strong individuals, they have strong opinions as we all do in the council,” Pospisil said.

Pospisil says Federer is a 'super smart guy'

Pospisil, a former world No. 25, suggests the Big Three are easy to get along with.

"When you have three guys coming in with the position that they come in, it can be challenging, they work very well together, they are very open-minded, Novak’s been incredible, I have spent most of the time with Novak since the day I joined. Roger when he came on he brought a different perspective and he is a super-smart guy and very open-minded so it’s been a very cool experience," Pospisil said.

Meanwhile, 19-time Grand Slam champion Nadal has decided to withdraw from this year's US Open, making himself the biggest name to opt out of playing at Flushing Meadows.

"After many thoughts I have decided not to play this year’s US Open. The situation is very complicated worldwide, the COVID-19 cases are increasing, it looks like we still don’t have control of it."

But world No. 1 Djokovic has accepted to come to New York as he will kick off his season restart at the Cincinnati Masters and then play the US Open.

"I am happy to confirm that I will participate at the Cincinnati and US Open this year,” Djokovic announced.

“It was not an easy decision to make with all the obstacles and challenges on many sides, but the prospect of competing again makes me really excited."
