World No. 1 Novak Djokovic gets his own mural
World No. 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic now has his own mural by a painter from East Sarajevo, Milos Popović.
Novak Djokovic gets his own muralMilos Popović painted a mural of the World No. 1 tennis player on a residential building on Srdjan Knezevic Square in Trnovo. The mural is about eight metres high and took five days to be completed. "It took five days for the mural to be completed. The sketch was transferred to the wall via a so-called “network” which was also used by old masters where they transferred their small sketches to church ceilings, large canvases and thus received reference points. My primary interest is in other painting techniques. Although this is not the first mural I have painted, I admit that at first I thought it was a big task for me. I had the opportunity to try this technique in the previous period when I painted a mural on Jahorina, however, it was less demanding than this one in Trnovo."
The idea of the mural was initiated by the Tourist Organization of the Municipality of Trnovo. "Considering that Novak is number one in the world of sports, this is a global message. I believe that everyone who visits this small municipality will use the opportunity to take photos next to the mural, and at least spend a short time in this small place, which really has a lot to offer to a tourist."
Novak Djokovic is the current World No. 1 in men's tennis. The Serbian player has won 17 Grand Slam singles titles, the third-most in history for a male player. He has held the No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings for over 280 weeks. Among the slams, he has won a record eight Australian Open titles, five Wimbledon titles, three US Open titles, and one French Open title. By winning the 2016 French Open, he became the eighth player in history to achieve the Career Grand Slam and the third man to hold all four major titles at once. He is also the only male player to have won all nine of the Masters 1000 tournaments. Djokovic was also a member of Serbia's winning Davis Cup team in 2010 and in the 2020 ATP Cup. Djokovic has won numerous awards, including the Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsman of the Year and the 2011 BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year award. He is also a recipient of the Order of St. Sava, the Order of Karađorđe's Star, and the Order of the Republika Srpska.
