Andy Murray after getting demolished by Stan Wawrinka: I'll give it long hard think

Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray revealed his goal was to try to stay calm against Stan Wawrinka but that didn't help much as the Swiss ended up demolishing the Briton 6-1 6-3 6-2 to reach the French Open second round.

"Over in the States I was getting frustrated in my matches, I was trying to try and keep my emotions in check on the court. I don't know whether that affected me in any way or not, that's probably why I was quieter than usual. I was trying to be calmer on the court," Murray said post-match, per George Bellshaw.

Murray badly lost but underlined that facing former world No. 3 Wawrinka in a Grand Slam first round wasn't ideal. 

"Today was a really tough draw and even if I played well there's no guarantees I would win that match but today I didn't play well. I served less than 40%, that's just not good enough," Murray acknowledged.

Murray will analyze the match 

Murray, a former world No. 1, clearly wasn't happy with the way he performed against Wawrinka as he admitted he will give it a "long hard think." 

"I need to have a long hard think about it. It's not the sort of match I would just brush aside and not think about it. I think that's one of the worst defeats by scoreline in my career. I need to understand why the performance was like that.

"The way I play, if you consider when I play my best tennis, I know what that looks like and it's not going around blasting balls and serving and volleying... It's getting the balance right. To totally change the way you play the game is hard

"I haven't served like that... that's nothing to do with my hip. Mistiming returns and serving at 38% that's got nothing to do with that. That's something I need to look at with my team. There's been matches I've served well since I came back, that's not a physical issue."

Murray beat Alexander Zverev at the Cincinnati Masters, just before the German made the US Open final.

"Zverev was a couple of points from winning the US Open and I'd won against him the weeks before. I'll keep going. Let's see what the next few months hold. I reckon I won't play a match like that between now and the end of the year," Murray noted.
