'Roger Federer, Nadal, Djokovic have fabulous regularity and...', says Spaniard ace

Pablo Carreno Busta amazed everyone once again at the US Open, where he had already pushed up to the semifinals in 2017. The Spanish tennis player has shown that he can do great things even on hard courts, despite the unfair criticism received from Nick Kyrgios on Twitter. The absence of the Big 3 has offered a great chance to all players, as well as guaranteeing a dose of uncertainty in the predictions that we have not seen in Grand Slam tournaments for years. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic had won 56 of the last 67 Majors played, as well as monopolizing tennis in the last decade and a half like no one in the history of the sport had done. Carreno Busta himself underlined the difficulties that many tennis players had to face in order to mentally manage the hegemony of the three sacred monsters. The next Grand Slams will tell us if it was just an exception, or the beginning of a new era.

Carreno Busta on the Big 3

“It is important for tennis that there are new champions in Grand Slam tournaments. I hope it's me. There are players who have more experience playing games in these advanced stages of the Grand Slam. Still, I managed to put myself in the semi-finals again. It is something that should be celebrated and from here I can continue to dream" - Pablo Carreno Busta explained. Carreno-Busta also shared his thoughts about the dominance of the Big Three in the tennis world: “We have lived in an era when Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Nadal Djokovic have been real beasts. It is very difficult to beat the Big Three because they coincided at the same time ... They are three incredible players, they have fabulous regularity and enormous quality. They have been at the highest level for 15 years”, he stated. The Big Three monopolized the top spot in the ATP men's singles rankings from 2 February 2004 to 6 November 2016 and again from 21 August 2017 to the present, for a total of 802 weeks (equivalent to over 15 years) as of 24 August 2020. Roger Federer was ranked number 1 for a record 310 weeks, Novak Djokovic, the current number 1, for 283 weeks, and Rafael Nadal for 209 weeks. Each player has occupied the top position of the world rankings at the end of the year five times.
