Young players to watch in 2021: Sinner, Gaston, Alcarez

Not only Jannik Sinner, Italian talent born in 2001. There are other very young tennis players, born from 2000 onwards, who could and should improve next year. They are the future of ATP Tennis. If the near future already has young and already winning names, such as Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Adrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, the near future could belong to a new generation of stars.

By now Thiem and the others are moving on to the Middle Generation: a concentration of tennis players who have achieved more important successes than what was once the Middle Age, mainly composed of Grigor Dimitrov, Milos Raonic and Kei Nishikori, now all at the turn of 30 years-old.

Jannik Sinner, winner of the ATP Sofia 2020, is the brightest star. He made quarterfinals at the French Open, beaten only by eventual champion Rafael Nadal. His tennis is gradually being completed, with a champion mentality. Sinner could mix a very amazing talent with an iron mind: a winning mix which could lead him to become the next ATP Ruler in the coming years.

But there is another very young Italian to take into consideration. Lorenzo Musetti, born in 2002, managed to make enormous progress in the last season. He is a mix of technique, talent and speed. This year, at the Italian Open, he beat Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori.

Young players to watch in 2021

Carlos Alcaraz, at 17, has shown that he has all the skills to be the future of Spanish tennis. In 2020 he made 39 victories in and 7 defeats. He still needs to improve many fundamental aspects of his tennis, especially service and forehand.

Thiago Seyboth Wild was the first tennis player born in the 2000s to win an ATP tournament in Santiago de Chile, beating Casper Ruud in the final. Physically strong, he still has to improve his technical and qualitative skills.

Hugo Gaston compensates for his physical structure with a height that does not reach 1.75m with technique and determination. He is not at Jannik Sinner's level, but he can aspire to important goals. As a wild card he played a great Roland Garros. His tennis is very reminiscent of some classic tennis champions, in some respects.

Sebastian Korda, son of the unforgettable Petr, has a great talent. A more contemporary talent, however. With him American tennis could have found a true champion: physical strength and athletic power with an excellent serve and forehand. Is he the future of Stars and Stripes tennis?
