Kei Nishikori gives update on his condition from Australian Open quarantine
Former world No. 4 Kei Nishikori updated his fans on his situation through his app.
Nishikori, who was one of 72 players placed in strict quarantine, has been giving his best to stay in positive spirits while unable to leave his hotel room.
"I got a running machine the day before yesterday, now I can run on it, that has improved my situation a bit. We were supposed to start on-court training tomorrow, but it has been postponed by a day for some reasons," Nishikori said on his app, as revealed nz Seiadoumogera/Twitter.
The first few days were especially tough for all sides as players were openly voicing their displeasure over the conditions in the Australian Open quarantine.
"Many things are still to be confirmed. There are always bitter quarrels in zoom meeting, seems like both players and staff have been stressed out. Everyone is still in difficult situation, it's quite demanding for me to waste one day, but I have to put up with that," Nishikori added.
Nishikori admits he will need time to regain his formNishikori is scheduled to play the ATP Cup, before he kicks off his campaign at the Australian Open.
"I've not hit balls for a while, I may need over two weeks to regain my form, I would not know until then though. I want to play doubles with Ben, I don't know whether I'll play doubles in ATP Cup, I'm gonna play doubles with Ben several times in future anyway," Nishikori said.
Nishikori is feeling well and he is looking forward to competing on the tennis courts.
"I sleep well these days, my weight has not changed. I'm gonna move to my usual hotel, Crown, after the quarantine, I have to start packing. I'll practice with Giron & Pospisil (*both were on the same plane as Kei, under strict quarantine). Now I badly want to play matches," Nishikori claimed.
