'Roger Federer is tennis, I'm his huge fan,' says Fabio Fognini
Alongside the pandemic, Fabio Fognini and Roger Federer had to deal with injuries that required surgeries in the season behind us. The 33-year-old Italian finished the previous season inside the top-20 mainly thanks to his 2019 points, scoring only six wins in 2020 and undergoing arthroscopic surgery on both ankles on May 30. Fabio made a slow start when the action kicked off again in August and lost four out of five matches, hoping for a better run in 2021. Fognini will try to reach the top again in the season ahead of us, with a former world no. 8 Alberto Mancini as his new coach. Fabio couldn't make an impression in Antalya, but the most important thing was that he played injury-free, feeling no pain and entering the ATP Cup with confidence. Speaking about Roger, Fabio said that he is a massive fan of the Swiss legend, enjoying watching him play over the years.
Fabio Fognini wishes to see Roger Federer at the top in 2021.Fognini hopes that Federer can reach the top again in 2021 and leave that nasty knee injury behind him. Roger hasn't played since the last year's Australian Open, undergoing two surgeries and targeting March as the return date. Federer battled past John Millman and Tennys Sandgren in Melbourne 12 months ago, reaching the semis and losing it to Novak Djokovic in straight sets. A couple of weeks later, the Swiss undergo the first knee surgery, needing another in May and deciding to skip the rest of the year after that. Roger hit the practice court in October and went to Dubai with his coach Ivan Ljubicic in December, doing his best to make the Australian Open main draw. Instead of that, the Swiss opted to spend more time on the practice court and pass the Aussie trip, working on a comeback that should happen in March in Doha and Dubai.
"I would like to see Roger Federer making a boom again in 2021. I'm his huge fan and enjoy watching him play. Sorry for telling you this, guys, but Roger Federer is tennis," Fabio Fognini said.
