Roger Federer: 'Those clothes got to be light and comfortable, simple'

The Australian Open is almost upon us. The first Grand Slam of the year will be held from 8 to 21 February and will feature the best tennis players of the circuit. Among them, Roger Federer will be missing. The Swiss champion has decided not to travel to Australia to recover 100% from a physical point of view and not to spend too much time away from his family. The favorites, therefore, will once again be Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, who with the Swiss are in full swing in the fight for the Grand Slam primacy. Federer and Nadal are currently at 20 Majors; while Djokovic, who could soon become the longest-running number one in tennis history, is stuck at 17 and has no intention of stopping. Recently, the eight-time Wimbledon winner shot a commercial with ‘Uniqlo’ to display their clothing wear. In the clip, Roger is seen jogging his way up a steep slope and reflecting on the time spent during the lockdown with members of his family.

Providing a better insight, Swiss superstar Roger Federer said, “You can’t have a career as long as I have unless you stay active. On the court, you see me do my tennis thing for 20 years. But off the court, I’m chasing my kids around every single day. But it’s an active life I’m leading, I think a healthy life. Those clothes got to be light and comfortable, simple. I love to put it on and it feels perfect right away.” Roger is one of the highest-paid players when it comes to endorsing brands. Over the years, he has maintained his position on the rankings. Last year, he topped Forbes’ list of the highest-paid athletes, going above the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The president of the ATP Andrea Gaudenzi, granted an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he reviewed the current world of tennis and how it has been damaged by the coronavirus pandemic. The ATP president downplays the hypothetical withdrawal from the circuit of Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic and trusts that their gap will be filled, as has already happened with other tennis players. “Tennis will survive maintaining its strength after the withdrawal of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. I started playing with Sampras and Agassi and it was said that after them there would be a void. The 1000 Masters in Rome or Wimbledon will continue to maintain their greatness regardless of the protagonists.“
