Janko Tipsarevic: Money never changed Novak Djokovic

Former world No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic insists 18-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic is "incredibly humble off the court."

Tipsarevic, 36, has known Djokovic from the Serb's early years on the Tour and he insists money never changed the world No. 1.

Djokovic turned into one of the all time greats and he has one of the most lucrative sponsorship deals in sports.

"Novak is incredibly humble off the court,” Tipsarevic said on the Double Bagel podcast. “He is probably talking about this stature, the most unmaterialistic person that you would ever meet.

“Like when you normally create generational wealth, people like this tend to change. Novak, from the moment that I know him up until this point, didn’t change one single bit in any way.”

Tipsarevic insists Djokovic always wants to help others

When the 2020 season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Djokovic wanted to find ways to help the lower-ranked players.

“[He is] definitely the most unmaterialisitic person that I know,” Tipsarevic added on Djokovic.

“A guy with a big heart who is always trying to help everybody, especially Serbia and his teammates.”

Meanwhile, Djokovic has turned his focus into winning the French Open.

Djokovic fell just short of leading Serbia to back-to-back ATP Cup titles in February but he produced another strong run at Melbourne Park to win a record ninth Australian Open title.

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are still tied on the all-time Grand Slam list but Djokovic now has 18 Majors in his collection.

At the upcoming French Open, Djokovic will be aiming to catch a 19th Major and further reduce the deficit between him, Nadal and Federer.

"Honestly, Rafa is going to win one more, maybe two for sure, French Opens”. Djokovic's coach Goran Ivanisevic said after the Australian Open. “(So) you need to keep going winning. Novak is favourite in Wimbledon and US Open."
