Roger Federer: 'I first have to prove to myself that the body can...'
The rivalry between the current world number one Novak Djokovic and the Swiss champion Roger Federer is certainly one of the greatest rivalries in the history of tennis and probably the world of sport. The Serbian champion has made a great run-up to the Swiss and has already equaled or exceeded the records of the Swiss legend. It is almost an eternal fight that we see between the fans of the two champions and we often discuss who is the best ever, along with Rafael Nadal of course. The Big Three are the strongest tennis players ever and this discussion is in the daily order. We are talking about years ago of course, but there was a moment when Novak Djokovic said he considered Roger Federer to be the best tennis player in history. After beating the Argentine Guillermo Canas in 2007, Nole focused on Canas' record of some positive victories over Roger Federer and at the end of a match between the two he made the following statements: "Against Guillermo I played a good match, I did my best and I won the race in two sets. Federer? I can't give him advice on how to beat Guillermo Canas, that wouldn't be nice. He is the number one in the world and the best tennis player ever, it happens to have some bad moments and Roger has had them in the challenges of Indian Wells and Miami precisely against Canas. Currently Novak Djokovic is number one in the world and in a certain sense the roles appear reversed since there are many, both among the professionals and among the fans, to consider the Serbian champion as the best ever. Novak Djokovic is on the hunt for Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal's Grand Slam title record with the Serbian chasing at 18 and the top two leading this record with 20 Grand Slam titles. Both in this Roland Garros and in Wimbledon and at the Us Open Novak Djokovic is among the favorites and his goal is to reach the other two players by the end of the year.
Roger Federer on winning more titlesRoger Federer recently appeared in an interview for GQ Magazine, where he spoke at length on several topics - including retirement and his ambitions going forward. Federer also shed light on some of his childhood fantasies, and revealed that he once wished to have his hair colored red. "I don’t know, I’m really relaxed about where my career is, where my life is," Roger Federer said. "And I know that this [moment] is one last big, huge opportunity for me to do something great. I mean, it’s always like this when you have achieved as much as I have." Roger Federer, who has 103 career titles to his name, further stressed that he is desperate to add to his trophy collection despite being at the fag end of his career. "I want to win more, otherwise, I wouldn’t have gone through the whole [last] year of surgeries and the process of doing five weeks on crutches and rehab," Federer said. "I truly believe I can do it again. [But] I first have to prove to myself that the body can take it. The mind is ready to go."
