Roger Federer shares tips to plan an ideal holiday

Roger Federer has only played two fights in 2021 so far, having missed almost all of it last season due to a double operation on his right knee. The Swiss phenomenon reached the quarter-finals in Doha in early March, where he surrendered to future tournament winner Nikoloz Basilashvili, also wasting a match point in the decisive set. The 20-time Grand Slam champion will return to the field very soon in Geneva, in what will be his only preparation meeting at Roland Garros. The 39-year-old from Basel's mind is already projected towards Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics, with the dream of finally wearing a gold medal in singles. Meanwhile, the former world number 1 has also become the new tourism ambassador to his country. The Swiss recently took part in a commercial with cinema legend Robert De Niro who toured the planet. During a virtual conversation about 'Zoom', the Maestro provided his fans and people from all over the world with some ideas for planning their trip to Switzerland.

Swiss ace Roger Federer mentioned in detail and stated, “Fly into Zurich or Geneva and go from there. In the summer, I think you would want to visit Lucerne and Interlaken and maybe visit Jungfrau, Basel, Zurich, Bern, the capital — its inner city is also really beautiful. We also have some incredible museums in Switzerland. The Foundation Beyeler art museum is great. I grew up visiting the Tinguely Museum, which is very interesting.” The 39-year-old further added, “In Lucerne, there is the Swiss Museum of Transport, which is still my favorite place to take my children. It’s a wonderful place where you can see old trams, trains, planes, cars, bikes, you name it. Of course, we also have a huge festival culture in Switzerland. There’s Fasnacht, a Lenten carnival in Basel, in March, and we have all these jazz and film festivals.” All in all, Federer is certainly enjoying his new role outside of tennis as he promotes his beloved and beautiful country. With the fan-following he commands and the charm he exudes, Federer’s appointment is sure to spike the tourism in Switzerland. Roger Federer made his much-awaited return to competitive tennis earlier at the Qatar Open. He didn't have a fruitful campaign in his first tournament in more than a year though, losing to Nikoloz Basilashvili in three sets in the quarterfinals. In the aftermath of his loss, Federer was asked whether he was planning to play the European clay swing before the grass season. The 39-year-old had replied then that he "had no choice but to play on clay" if he wanted to get into his groove before Wimbledon.
