'This says Roger Federer wants a chance to potentially say...', says legend

The anticipation of Roger Federer's return to the ATP Tour is almost palpable. Fortunately, he has already announced that he will return to the competitive tracks of the ATP 250 Geneva from May 15th. Given his confirmation for the French Open and his high hopes for Wimbledon, May and June are the crucial two months for the Swiss maestro. However, on a concerning note, coach Severin Luthi recently revealed that Federer's fitness level is still not up to scratch. In response, 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick explained that this is his best chance of winning a Grand Slam.

Against that background, Tennis Channel recently invited four-time Major winner Jim Courier and 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick to discuss Roger Federer's prospects in the clay season. "Roger Federer throughout his career has not played events he's not ready to play," Andy Roddick said. "He's been fine sitting out weeks, months, especially late in his career he's been really pragmatic about what he plays." Andy Roddick then weighed in on Roger Federer playing the upcoming edition of Roland Garros. "At this point of his career, what it tells me is he wants to play in front of his home crowd, wants to play Roland Garros," Andy Roddick added. "Maybe he doesn't know what next year brings, for me he's dealing with being fully fit. This says he wants a chance to potentially say goodbye to Roland Garros if next year doesn't happen." Meanwhile, World number two Rafael Nadal, who won the Barcelona Open recently, was conferred with the Laureus Sportsman of the year award for winning his 13th French Open crown and his 20th grand slam title in 2020. Nadal expressed his happiness for winning the award, where he talked about how much the 20th grand slam meant to him. The Spaniard also mentioned his friend and rival, Roger Federer.  “For me personally, of course achieving the 13th Roland Garros title and equaled the 20th Grand Slam of Roger Federer has been an unforgettable moment for me. So it means a lot to me to equal my great rival, but at the same time, my great friend. With victory at the French Open, Rafael Nadal equaled Roger Federer’s tally of winning 20 major singles titles on tour. The World number 3 continues his winning momentum this year as well and remains to be the main contender for the French Open.
