Ashleigh Barty: "I'm disappointed with how I played in Tokyo 2021"
Ashleigh Barty was eliminated in tge first round at the Tokyo Olympics 2021, by a very good perfromance of an excellent Sara Sorribes Tormo. The world number one was unable to adapt to the playing conditions and, above all, to affect the forehand.
The Spaniard surprised her opponent on more than one occasion by using a deep high ball capable of neutralizing the slice. The Australian looked very shaken at the end of the game and did not attend the usual press meeting. Barty's only statements were collected by the television station present on the sidelines.
The disappointment of the AustralianBarty said: "I am very disappointed with the way I played today. I was very foul and my opponent was clearly superior to me from start to finish. I can't afford to think too much about this defeat, because I'm still in the doubles tournament and I still have the opportunity to make the Australians proud of me."
Sorribes Tormo, on her part, could not help but express all the joy of her for the incredible victory obtained in the first round. She said: "I am probably the happiest person in the Olympic village. I still have goosebumps. I am very excited about what I have achieved. I played a very good game.
We were both very nervous, especially at the beginning, but the game plan that I had agreed with my coach proved to be effective. I love to represent Spain. Playing for your country and representing so many people is something incredible. Being in Tokyo to play the Olympic Games is already a dream for me."
Considering the elimination of the Australian, the absolute favorite in the women's singles bears the name and surname of Naomi Osaka. The Japanese is finally back on the pitch after the Parisian controversy and easily won her first round match.
We recall that in her press interview, Osaka said: "I think the break I took was more than necessary. I feel relieved and happy again. never fully focused on tennis. Playing at the Olympics has always been my dream. I feel very refreshed and happy again, even with the questions from the reporters.
I feel a little crazy right now. wrong with my body, I just felt very nervous. I haven't played since Roland Garros, there are things I did wrong, but I think I can improve. When I lit the flame I was super honored. And now I'm just very happy to be here and very happy to play."
