Inside and outside the court, Naomi Osaka has already become an icon, despite her young age.

The Japanese tennis star, supporter of Black Lives Matter, protagonist of battles over inclusion and social equality and very strong choices such as abandoning Roland Garros 2021 to preserve her mental health after the controversy over press conferences with the media, was chosen by the organizers of the Tokyo 2021 Olympics as the last torchbearer: it was in fact Naomi who lit the Olympic Brazier.

Over the course of her career, Naomi has won seven WTA titles out of eleven finals played, winning four Grand Slam tournaments: the US Open in 2018 and 2020 and the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021. Following her first Australian success, on the 28th. January 2019 became the first Asian to reach the first place in the world ranking.

She was the first Japanese to win a Grand Slam title and the third in the Open era to qualify for the WTA Finals. In 2020 she is indicated by Forbes magazine as the richest sportswoman in the world, with 37.4 million dollars collected in 2019 between prizes and sponsorships, surpassing the record held by Maria Sharapova (29.7 million dollars in 2015) and ousting Serena Williams who led the ranking for four years.

Although she grew up mainly in the United States, when she turns professional her father chooses for her to represent Japan, thinking that this way she would have more opportunities. She had both Japanese and US citizenship, where she has lived with her family since the age of three.

She understands Japanese well but speaks it little in public, and her fellow countrymen prefer to answer questions from journalists in English. In February 2020 Netflix announces the making of a documentary based on the life of the tennis player.
