Kei Nishikori: Novak Djokovic loss was frustrating

Former world No. 4 Kei Nishikori admitted he felt frustrated with his Tokyo Olympics performance against Novak Djokovic but overall he was happy with his campaign at the tournament. 

Nishikori, now ranked at No. 69 in the world, stood no chance against Djokovic as the Serb won 6-2 6-0. 

Nishikori is now set to make his eighth appearance in Washington. 

Nishikori won it all at the Citi Open in 2015 after beating John Isner in the final. 

"It was a great and fulfilling week. Yesterday's loss is frustrating, but I'm happy that I played good matches in a row this week. I'm flying to Washington, try to be ready for round one there. It's a bit sad to play without the crowd but I think I did my best," Nishikori said, per Seiadoumogera/Twitter. 

Nishikori leaving Tokyo confident 

"Aside from today (QF match), I've regained feelings that I didn't have before, that means a lot for me. I don't know if it's thanks to (playing) the Games, but I've gained a lot because their huge effort made the Games happen, I'm really grateful for that," Nishikori noted. 

"Playing the Games is not only for myself. I wanted to show my play in person to kids, people having a dream for the future, that's one of the reasons I play the Olympics. It was a bit shame I couldn't achieve the goal, but for myself, I did my best, had a fulfilling a week."

After his win over Nishikori, Djokovic said: "Kei, I know his game very well. Him playing in Japan, this court where he had lots of success, I knew that he's going to play very quick and he's not gonna give me a lot of time so I had to be very alert. And I feel I had an answer for everything he had."
