Novak Djokovic to partner Nina Stojanovic for mixed doubles at Tokyo Olympics
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will also be playing in the mixed doubles event at the Tokyo Olympics.
Djokovic, 34, is set to partner rising Serbian star Nina Stojanovic.
Djokovic hasn't played mixed doubles since the 2013 season.
At the beginning of the 2013 season, Djokovic partnered Ana Ivanovic at the Hopman Cup.
Djokovic, who is in the hunt for his maiden Olympic gold medal in the singles event, is also hoping to make a deep run in the mixed doubles event.
Meanwhile, Djokovic hopes the Tokyo Olympics organizers will start tennis matches at a later time.
"I've spoken to the organizers. Despite logistical challenges, they're working on matches to start later as the tournament progresses. It would be the best for all of us," Djokovic said, per Sasa Ozmo.
Djokovic making progress at the Tokyo OlympicsOn Monday, Djokovic handed a 6-4 6-3 loss to Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff to reach the Tokyo round-of-16.
"It took me some time to adjust to the speed of his serve. The break at the end of the 1st set was the key. I started to read his serve better in the second. Tough win," Djokovic said of his win over Struff.
Djokovic plays next against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
"He used to be a clay specialist, but he has improved on hardcourts in the last year and a half. We practice with each other in Spain, we get along nicely, he is a great guy. I know what to expect," Djokovic said of Davidovich Fokina.
A number of athletes have stopped Djokovic and asked for a selfie in Tokyo.
"Lots of photos and nice words, it feels me with positive energy. I am enjoying every single moment here at the Olympics. Lots of photos and nice words, it feels me with positive energy. I am enjoying every single moment here at the Olympics," Djokovic said of numerous selfies in Tokyo.
