Rising Swiss star Dominic Stricker: Special to win my first ATP title at home
Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler credited good serve behind his and Dominic Stricker's final victory in Gstaad.
Huesler and Stricker, who received a wild card into the Gstaad doubles event, overcame Polish duo Szymon Walkow and Jan Zielinski 6-1 7-6 (7) to lift their first team doubles title.
"We both started off serving really well, and the return games were going our way," Huesler said, per the ATP website. "We almost didn't miss a shot in the first set, but in doubles that can go very fast. Our opponents put up a fight in the second set, but we were almost untouchable on our service games and that is probably why we won the match."
Huesler and Stricker were playing in only their second tournament as a pair.
Stricker, 18, was delighted to win his first doubles title in front of his Swiss fans.
"It is something very special to win my first title at home," Stricker added. "It is always great to win a title, but to win with another Swiss guy is different. Hopefully we can win another one."
Huesler and Stricker delivered a good performanceWalkow and Zielinski served out the opening game of the match but Huesler and Stricker then claimed three breaks in a row and won six consecutive games to comfortably win the opener.
Huesler and Stricker also won the opening game of the second and had a chance to extend their run to eight games but Walkow and Zielinski saved a break point in the second game to end Huesler and Stricker's run of seven games.
As not a single break point was seen in the rest of the set, the set had to be resolved in a tie-break.
In the tie-break, Huesler and Stricker realized their third match point to win the title in front of their home fans.
In the Gstaad singles final, third-seeded Casper Ruud handed a 6-3 6-2 loss to world No. 155 Hugo Gaston.
Ruud, ranked at No. 14 in the world, claimed back-to-back titles for the first time in his career as a week earlier he won it all in Bastad.
