Stefanos Tsitsipas: I'm always trying to fix my mistakes and get better outcome

Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas acknowledged that playing under the closed roof didn't prevent him from playing his best tennis against Frances Tiafoe at the Tokyo Olympics. 

Tsitsipas, ranked at No. 4 in the world, handed a 6-3 6-4 loss to Tiafoe to progress into the Tokyo Olympics round-of-16.

“There was [a different feel] yeh,” Tsitsipas said, per the ITF website. “I enjoyed playing under the closed roof. The court kind of felt quicker, but that didn’t stop me from playing the game I wanted to play.”

Tsitsipas claimed the first break of the match in the second game and then held on to his serve the rest of the way to win the opener.

In the second set, Tsitsipas failed to convert a break point in the third game but broke Tiafoe two games later. 

Tsitsipas had a chance go to up by a double break but he failed to convert a break point in the seventh game. 

However, he held on to his serve to book a straight-set win. 

Tsitsipas happy with his performance 

“I’m always trying to find to find solutions, find ways to fix my mistakes and get a better outcome - that was the case today,” said Tsitsipas. “I was able to maintain the high levels of concentration and deliver good tennis in moments where I had to.

“It was a very-well balanced game, mentally.”

A few weeks ago, Tiafoe beat Tsitsipas in straight sets at Wimbledon.

"I didn’t serve great today," admitted Tiafoe afterwards. "He had a lot of second serves. He was able to work the point for his forehand. At Wimbledon I was serving much better, I was able to serve and volley and put a lot more pressure on him.

"But he played well today, man. He struck the ball well. He played the right way at the big times. He’s a good player. He’s where he is for a reason."
