Tennys Sandgren speaks on what it means to represent Team USA at Tokyo Olympics

American tennis player Tennys Sandgren insists representing the United States at the Tokyo Olympics means so much to him. 

Sandgren, ranked at No. 82 in the world, didn't impress in the singles event at the Tokyo Olympics as he lost to Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in his opener at the tournament. 

But Sandgren is enjoying much bigger succes in the doubles event as he and fellow compatriot Austin Krajicek beat Slovakia's Lukas Klein and Filip Polasek 6-7 (2) 6-2 10-5. 

“We've been saying the pledge of allegiance right before each match starts, so we are gosh darn patriotic right now it's out of control," Sandgren said, per US Davis Cup Fans/Twitter. 

In the quarterfinal, Sandgren and Krajicek will be battling Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff and Alexander Zverev. 

“It's indescribable for me. What an incredible opportunity to be here for the USA. We don't get to play on a team very often, so to play for your country... I'm soaking up every minute of it," Krajicek said of playing for Team USA at the Olympics. 

Sandgren and Krajicek edged out Klein and Polasek

Krajicek and Sandgren saved a break point in the opening game of the match but also failed to convert a break point in the following game. 

As no more break points were seen in the first set, the set had to be resolved in a tie-break. 

In the tie-break, Sandgren and Krajicek won the opening point but then lost the following six points. 

Sandgren and Krajicek saved the first set point but couldn't save the set second as Klein and Polasek won a tight opener. 

After losing a tight first set, Sandgren and Krajicek broke Klein and Polasek twice in the second set to force a decider. 

Klein and Polasek made a positive start to the match tie-break, having taken an early 3-1 lead. 

The key moment of the match tie-break was when Sandgren and Krajicek won four consecutive points to take an 8-4 lead. 

A few points later, Sandgren and Krajicek converted their first match point to complete a comeback win.
