Doubles world No. 201 Lucas Miedler: Words cannot describe what happened in Kitzbuhel

Doubles world No. 201 Lucas Miedler was a bit lost for words after capturing the Kitzbuhel doubles title alongside his fellow compatriot Alexander Erler.

Erler and Miedler, who received a wild card into Kitzbuhel, put up a stunning run to claim their maiden ATP team title in Kitzbuhel.

In Saturday's final, Erler and Miedler edged out Roman Jebavy and Matwe Middelkoop 7-5 7-6 (5).

Erler and Miedler's run also included wins over No. 1 seeds Nikola Brkic and Tomislav Cacic, as well as a win over fourth-seeded Ariel Behar and Guillermo Duran.

“It feels amazing, words cannot describe what happened today,” Meidler said, per the ATP website. “We are happy, and in front of this home crowd, to win a first ATP Tour title together is unbelievable.

“We played well and the other guys played some good tennis. Our strength this week has been winning tie-breaks. We just focused on every point, we started well in the tie-break. We kept believing.”

Erler and Miedler didn't fall under pressure

Erler and Miedler saved a break point in the opening game of the match but also failed to convert any of their three break point chances in the following game.

However, it didn't take long for Erler and Miedler to claim their first break of the match in the fourth game.

Erler and Miedler failed to serve out for the opener in the ninth game but they broke Jebavy and Middelkoop again in the 12th game to win a tight opener.

After failing to convert a break point in the fifth game, Jebavy and Middelkoop lost their serve in the fifth game.

But Jebavy and Middelkoop refused to give up as they saved a match point in the ninth game and one more match point in the 10th game to level the set at five games apiece.

Erler and Miedler had their third match point in the 12th game but failed to convert as the set had to be resolved in a tie-break.

In the tie-break, Erler and Miedler took an early 4-0 lead and never looked back to seal the title.
