Kei Nishikori: Novak Djokovic loss was tough and frustrating but I had fun in Tokyo

Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori admitted that the Novak Djokovic loss was tough and frustrating but still he had fun at the Tokyo Olympics. 

Nishikori, now ranked at No. 67 in the world, started his Tokyo Olympics campaign with a surprise win over world No. 7 Andrey Rublev. 

Nishikori then continued his fine form in the following two matches, beating Marcos Giron and Ilya Ivashka. 

Nishikori was then hoping to stun world No. 1 Djokovic in the quarterfinal but his hopes of doing so quickly fell apart. 

Djokovic, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, demolished Nishikori 6-2 6-0 and the Japanese was left without a chance to fight for a medal. 

"It was very fun last week. The loss (to Djoko) is tough and frustrating, I was playing for a medal, but played good matches for the first time in a while. Lost the quarterfinal quite easily, but felt like I've regained good feelings, it was very fulfilling week," tteNishikori said, per Seidoumogera/Twitter. 

No time to rest for Nishikori 

After losing to Djokovic, Nishikori packed and flew to Washington, where he is set to play at this week's Citi Open. 

Nishikori, who was drawn to meet Sam Querrey in the Washington first round, is set to make his eighth appearance at the tournament. 

"It's a bit tough (to play the Citi Open), but I want to play on hard court this week in the United States. I have Washington and two Masters before the US Open, want to play this week to get myself into gear (for the US Open). I'm on the right track now, will try my best to play my good tennis this week," Nishikori admitted. 

Nishikori won it all in Washington in 2015 after beating John Isner in the final. 

"I have good memories here, I have won this tournament, I think the surface and the condition here suit my tennis. Feeling I'm getting better, will try hard this week too," Nishikori added.
