Matthew Ebden wonders if tennis has become boring

Former world No. 39 Matthew Ebden didn't appear to be too much thrilled by the Tokyo Olympics singles final.

In the gold medal match, world No. 5 Alexander Zverev demolished 25th-ranked Karen Khachanov 6-1 6-3.

"Has tennis become too boring? Olympic gold match, slow court, slow balls, same rally each point, both hit big and neither can hardly hit a winner, every point ending in an error. No diversity. No reward for risk. Boring?" Ebden tweeted.

Zverev broke Khachanov twice in the first set to comfortably win the opener.

Zverev was even more dominant in the second set, breaking Khachanov three times to secure a straight-set win.

Ebden loses in the Washington qualifying

Over the weekend, Ebden was in action at the Citi Open in Washington.

Unfortunately for Ebden, he fell short in his attempt to secure a main draw spot in Washington after losing to Emilio Gomez in the qualifying first round.

Meanwhile, Zverev was thrilled after winning his first gold medal.

"This is so much bigger than anything else in sports, especially in tennis - this is an incredible feeling me for me right now," Zverev said, per the ITF website. "There is nothing better than this. You are not only playing for yourself, you are playing for your country, and the Olympics are the biggest sporting event in the world. The feeling I have now, and will have, nothing will be better."

On the other side, Khachanov admitted Zverev was the better player.

"He played from the beginning to the end an unbelievable match," Khachanov said. "I also played an outstanding match from my point of view, but he was just better today - all credit to him. For me, the Olympics stands alongside as the Grand Slams, that’s why I trained for this as soon as Wimbledon was over. I was dreaming of gold, but I’ll give it a try at the next Olympics."
