2017 runner-up David Goffin joins star-studded 2019 Rotterdam player field

Belgian tennis star David Goffin will play the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam in February.

The 28-year-old is set to make his sixth appearance at the Dutch tournament.

Goffin has had success so far in his career in Rotterdam but has yet to win it all at the tournament.

The Belgian fell just short of making it all the way in Rotterdam in 2017 as he ended runner-up at the tournament.

Back then, Jo Wilfried Tsonga came from a set down in the final to prevent the 28-year-old from winning the 2017 Rotterdam title.

Goffin reached the Rotterdam semi-final earlier this year before his campaign came to an end on an unfortunate and bizarre way.

Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov was 6-3 0-1 up during their semi-final meeting when the ball bounced off the Belgian's racket frame and hit him in the eye.

The match was stopped as the doctor was called to give Goffin a medical help -- but the Belgian couldn't continue the match as he retired.

Goffin luckily escaped a serious eye injury but he didn't play another tournament for over a month.

The Belgian's first win in Rotterdam came in 2017 as his first three Rotterdam campaigns ended with a first-round loss.

Goffin is expected to be joined in Rotterdam by Dimitrov, Alexander Zverev, Marin Cilic, Kei Nishikori and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Rotterdam event is due to take place from February 11-17.
